MSN Groups

To add the WebRing NavBar to your MSN Group, follow the written tutorial provided below:

First, you need to get the NavBar code…

  1. Click the URLs tab if it isn’t already open after signing in to your WebRing account.
  2. Find the URL (web page address) for the page on which you want to add the WebRing NavBar.
  3. Click “Get SSNB Code” found to the right of the URL.
  4. Copy (Ctrl + C) the code found in the “optional” section of the coding. You should copy everything starting after “”.

Next, you need to add the NavBar to your MSN Group…

  1. Sign in to your MSN account and open your MSN Group.
  2. Click “Edit This Page” found below your group’s name. (This link is found in the left menu and is only visible if you are the owner or manager of the group. If you don’t see the link, you are either not signed in or not the owner/manager.)
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the “Create your New Page” text field. (Don’t worry: If this page is already created, you won’t create a new one. Rather, you will be editing the one that already exists.)
  4. Paste (Ctrl + V) the NavBar code at the bottom of the “Create your New Page” text field.
  5. Click the “Save Page” button.

That’s it! If you have successfully added the WebRing NavBar, you will see something similar to this:

You’re now ready to join some WebRing Communities. You will want to read the “Special Requirements” section below before deciding which Communities to join.

Special Requirements
MSN Groups have limited editing options. This presents two issues:

  • You will NOT be able to post the preferred SSNB form of the WebRing NavBar on your MSN Group. As a result, you will need to use the stripped down version of the NavBar as detailed in the tutorials. Your WebRing account will show your MSN Group's status as Pass_L.
  • You may not be able to join all the WebRing Communities you want. A fair share of Ring Managers do not accept members with sites that don't use the SSNB version.

Other issues can result from not using the SSNB version, but if used sparingly, this version of the NavBar will work just fine in connecting you with other sites with the same theme as your MSN Group.
